Writers’ Block

On Monday, sitting in front of me was a blank computer screen. Frustration set in. I typed, backspaced, typed again, deleted… The flow of words just wasn’t right.
Ah! Light went on. What if I were to write down the five senses and list under each heading what my character is seeing, hearing, tasting, touching, and smelling in this scene? It worked! From my list, I was able to create sentences which grew into paragraphs, and the scene flowed together like a river meeting the ocean.
Example:
See – butterflies, blue sky, flowers, and a creek
Hear – bees, birds, water running
Taste – blueberries
Touch- silky softness of a leaf
Feel- pain of a bee sting
Now you create the story. Happy writing, friends!

TEETER TOTTERING

Sitting here, taking a break at work, I struggle to find a balance between my day job as an administrative assistant and my part-time life as a writer /artist. It seems I use up my energy during the day and upon arriving home in the evenings I am exhausted. Thus, an important part of me is lost in the daily shuffle.
I enjoy working in the office environment, too. Solving problems, helping others, creating reports, and meeting new people are all parts of me, too. But there is a slice of me that desires to create a place where others can escape from reality to relax away from everyday pressures.
So, I have decided that I need to find a balance in my life. Like taking a daily dose of vitamins, I will have to schedule time each evening to write and create art. They say that a new habit is formed in (30) days. If I plan for one hour every evening to write and another to paint/drawer, at the end of the month I will be curious to see how much I have accomplished.
I would love to hear feedback on how you balance your daily life.
Sunshine in the rain!

What a rainy Saturday, but I don’t mind. It means I get to stay inside and actually sit at my desk to write for awhile. I have been working on the edits of my manuscript titled “Tempest Roars” which has already been critiqued once by an editor. After letting it sit for a bit on a shelf, I have blow off the cobwebs, and I am reviewing her great suggestions. It is my goal to have this manuscript resubmitted to another publisher for consideration for publication by the end of June. (Did y’all hear that I have given myself a deadline? Hold me to it!)
I am also working on an outline and plotting for another book titled “Pulse” that I have been wanting to write for a couple of years now. It’ll take much more research than my first book, but it’ll worth the effort, I promise! “Pulse” will be a suspense where the story “…takes place in northern Maine where mountains are covered with snow and the lakes freeze over for months at a time. The perfect place for a killer to hide bodies? Or is it?”
Later on this evening, I will put on my artist’s cap and wander back into my studio where I will begin a painting of a little girl with a flowing lacy dress is playing in the waves on the beach. I think I will give her dancing blonde curls and tiny lil’ piggy toes with pink nail polish. This is a painting that I have been wanting to do for a long time! I have the paper primed and ready. Just need to get it started!
Well, that is my plans for the future. What are your goals?

Christmas is the season to share. With the rising costs of merchandise on store shelves and the lack of jobs, I thought it would be fun if everyone shared their creative gift ideas and delicious recipes.
Can’t wait to hear from everyone!
