| WELCOME TO THE WRITER SIDE OF ME |

| Dear Friends, Growing up in Maine, cold winters were long, and summers in the country were…well, at times boring. When the snow fell outside, you would most likely find me curled up in a chair beside the woodstove, Nancy Drew in hand. Upon the arrival of spring, when flowers bobbed their heads in the breeze, I could be found sitting under a pine tree lost in the world of The Hardy Boys. Over time, the seasons changed, the years passed, and my taste in books altered. As a teenager, I would snitch my sister’s Harlequin Romance novels, and hide under my blankets with a flashlight at night, reading ‘til the wee hours of the morning. In 1976, armed only with a vivid imagination and a dictionary, I participated in my first creative writing class in college. Add a student with a vivid imagination with a teacher who desires her students to write “her way”, what do you get? Much to my dismay, not an ‘A’ but a ‘C’ on my report card. After 1978, upon graduating from Thomas College, my desires to become a writer were temporarily put on hold, replaced by my first job, then marriage and eventually the births of my children. Approximately four years ago, and on a whim, I decided to participate in a Leisure Learning fiction writing class at McNeese State University. Under the guidance and patience of my instructor, Shonell Bacon, my creative imagination flared, came to life. My characters evolved and a movie began to play in my mind. With her help, the words to this story formed on paper. Now as a member of Bayou Writers’ Group, and Romance Writers’ Unlimited Critique Group, I have achieved my first goal as a writer – two romance novels and working on a third. I am also writing and illustrating a series of children's picture books. With a smile on my face and excitement in my heart, I can tell the world, I am an author. With anticipation, I look forward to meeting my next goal, to become a published author! Peggy A. Borel Author |
